About Us

Ackerman Handcrafted Log Homes, founded in 1981, is owned and operated by brothers Skip and John Ackerman. Skip is a graduate of the B. Allan Mackie School of Log Building in Canada, and John and Skip are active members of the International Log Builders Association.

The skilled craftsmen of Ackerman Log Homes use a unique array of tools — old world, high tech and custom made — to hand scribe each log and create log structures that are true works of art. In addition to the American staff, Ackerman also employs craftsmen from Latvia, Czech Republic and New Zealand who bring with them old world skills in building log structures.

Skip Ackerman takes exceptional pride in personally selecting each of the logs that is used in building an Ackerman home. At present, our inventory consists of “Dead Standing” Engelmann Spruce.
